The weather is here….
Today was the day I intended to shove off. The weather doesn’t agree with my intentions though. Wind, rain, and possible thunderstorms are in the forecast. Now I’m not a sailor that waits for all dangers to pass before setting sail, if you do that you will never leave port, but I am no fool either. With a sailboat you have a mast sticking straight up in the air, just begging to be struck by lighting.
I have seen the result of a strike to a boat, and trust me its not pretty. The strike comes down the mast in to the boat and has no where to go so it just blows holes in the bottom. So we wait for the weather to pass before casting lines.
So what do I do when underway and weather becomes disagreeable? Well if its just rain, you carry on, if its heavy winds and rain, you find a safe harbor. We have to listen to the forecast several times a day to stay current because the weather constantly changes and if you aren’t prepared you can make a devastating mistake.
That’s about it for now but I will be posting again today to keep you up to date on the conditions, so I hope you check back.

how relaxing would that be to be sitting on a boat listening to the rain? (can you tell i need a vacation?)
