The Sun finally returns……

I woke to the smell of lavender in my thoughts and the voice of an angel in my head. Bright light, Lavender, an Angels voice….. I got up and went up in the cockpit and looked around. I smiled as I realized the voice and smell were the remnants of a sign of good sleep. The  sun was trying to peak out from the thinning clouds.  The first signs of color in the sky besides white haze and dark clouds. I smiled as turned on the radio to listen to the weather.
Rain late in the day. Some rain and possible thunderstorms tomorrow. Clearing Saturday night, to clear skies Sunday with 10 knot wind from the north. The rest of the week, just as clear as Sunday, just don’t know what the wind speed and direction will be yet. But that doesn’t matter friends, all that does is the storms have passed , we can sail soon!!
A friend asked “Why cant you sail in the rain?” well, I can. But I wont sail in storms with lightning by myself. First a sailboat is just a floating lightning rod. Second waves are bigger in and near thunderstorms. And friends waves are not measured in feet, they are measured in increments of fear. And third, in the next leg of the journey we will cross the Potomac River, so what, George Washington did it standing up in a row boat at night, Right? Well, have you ever asked yourself what was really the big deal with that? It was the fact that the Potomac is the widest river that feeds into the bay. The mouth of that river is over 10 from point to point, with the force of the current feeding into the bay and the cross current of the bay, plus the waves and tidal flow, then add in the excessive depths, and wind, then you start to realize why all the charts have that area marked in big letters DANGER ZONE. It is the second most dangerous part of the Chesapeake Bay, in good weather.
If NOAA is right about the weather, then come Sunday, we will leave Solomon’s Island and continue on.
Some of the emails I received asked about Captain Handyside and First Mate Garth from S/V Gonzo’s Flying Dog. One reader was curious to know if I had heard how the were doing. Their own blog has not been updated in some time, neither has either of their other sites. They have not updated their MySpace page in some time either. As the optimist I am, I would like to think they found a nice secluded anchorage and just have no internet connection. Or maybe the laptop took a dive. The only thing I can tell you about them for sure is, I have sent an email to them, and I know when they have signal they will answer. I have also checked the USCG site, and there have been no small craft tragedies in the area they were sailing to. That’s all I can tell you on their progress.

A brief plug for a friend of mine’s father, who is currently creating an amazing mural for the New Ocean Exhibit at the Schiele Museum in Gastonia, N.C. Besides the fact that I know the artist, what interests me about the exhibit, is that they say they will be focusing on “some heavy environmental issues” with it. And we know how I feel about our waterways. So for my Carolina readers the exhibit opens May 16. The Schiele Museum is located at 1500 East Garrison Blvd. you can call them at 704-866-6900.  Follow the link to get a peek at three pics of the mural.  The one of the Sand Castle is worth the look just in itself.

I want to thank everyone of you that reads this. Readership is growing at approximately 18% each week, yes it’s a small percentage, but it is growing and that’s what counts. The main reason it is growing, is YOU, my readers. YOU are telling your friends and coworkers and I thank you. I know some of you are reading this in “The Big Shaky” (California) and at least one of you is from Toronto  (eh), and some of my old friends from down island (Jah Live!) are also reading. I  know the south east US is showing respectably and has a growing readership as well. So remember, as a writer living a Bohemian Lifestyle, I am a starving artist. The more people that read, the more I can eat… so help me out and keep spreading the word. If you like what read Digg It, or if you have Stumble Upon, Stumble it.
