Cross Street Coffee and Espresso

Published by emmanuelledrifting at 2:16 am under Life, Travel Edit This

Monday morning I kayaked to shore for my coffee as usual. The French Canadian was planning on leaving this morning but as has been said before “Sailors don’t have plans, only intensions.” So he intends to leave Wednesday. I walked up Prettyman’s Hill and turned left on Cross Street.

Walked in the Cross Street Coffee and Espresso, that used to be a Hardware store, lets see if I can describe the coffee shop for you….

Up two steps through the main door into a small entrance foyer. A Realtor’s office on the port side, the door to the coffee shop to your starboard, open the 15 lite door under the old timey transom and step in and the smell of coffee mixed with fresh made scones fill the air. Right next to the door is a small counter with cream sugar and coffee urns. On the other side of the door is the table I normally sit at right next to the 8 foot by 8 foot double hung window. On the other side of the window are some chairs and small coffee tables with newspapers and books sitting on them. A Takamine G series acoustic guitar sits on a stand for anyone to play that wants too. A small couch on the wall a few seats in the middle. The shop is about 15 feet across and 40 feet long.

The counter is about 16 feet long, next to the Royal cash register is a bowl of fruit surrounded by fresh made muffins, scones, cakes, and cookies. The regular assortment of flavors for coffee, the monster looking machine that makes cappuccino and espresso. Tall coffee grinders next to that. A small grill on the back counter where they make sandwiches for lunch. Two large coffee makers that makes the regular not so fancy java. The bulletin board next on the wall by the clock advertising local business’ and bands. Art work on every greenish yellow wall (available for purchase) by local artists. Photos on a shelf of employees at what looks to be the annual Oyster Fest.

It was a busier Monday than normal here at the coffee shop. A constant flow of people, the Barista, Becky, a college student at Mary Washington, working here while she is home  for the summer making sandwich after sandwich, latte after latte for two hours straight.

This is were I sit and type most days, they have free wireless internet, good coffee, and I think I have mentioned the Rueben sandwiches before. The fruit is always fresh, as are the scones and other baked goodies…. But the cakes I cant judge, as you all know I have a soft spot for a particular Pineapple Bundt Cake…… ;)
