A Day in The Life……

Published by emmanuelledrifting at 9:50 am under Life, Travel Edit This

Yesterday I spent the majority of the day working on interview questions and researching an idea I had after sitting with the Decorous Infernos Campana. Monday evening we sat on the balcony talking, when the topic was turned to Astral Projection. I admit I know a lot, but this was something I don’t know much about. So being the seeker I am, I sought the answers. I found most of what I was looking for, but still need to find more info on it.

Now, the interview questions have nothing to do with Astral Projection, they are for an interview of a local Carolina artist. Working on questions? You ask, yes I answer. Interviews aren’t as easy to do as some think. First there are different styles to an interview, the most common is the 20 questions type. You know the one, the one that is laid out “Q: ……..” “A:……”. Informative, yes, but I have always found these boring. Another style is where the interview tells a story, follows an idea and lays the questions and answers that actually gives the reader more of an understanding of the subject.  I have used both styles in the past, but I prefer the latter of these two.

So in posing the questions, you do so in a way to elicit more than just a one, two or five word answer. You want the person you are interviewing to open up and answer your question with a paragraph. With that kind of answer, you can tell more of what the person feels about the answer and why they do. “Do you feel the proposed no tax on labor and services in California is unfair?” “Yes.” That type of simple answer is hard to build an interesting interview out of. But if the answer was more like “I do, this is going to affect many small collision repair shops as well as drivers. With an industry average of $80.00 an hour for labor, this will increase it by 5-10 dollars in some places. That can add up quick, a lot of people pay out of pocket for repairs so as not to raise insurance premiums. If people have to shell out an additional 100 bucks for tax, in this economy just won’t get their cars fixed. And think of the added cost just for routine maintenance, with the cost of oil and other parts, its hard enough at times to tune your car, now throw more taxes in the mix. Some will let service their cars less and in doing so it will affect their fuel mileage.” See the difference?

So that’s what I did yesterday. The Campana and I also talked about me staying a little longer. An old friend from the neighborhood, The Musician, is in a band that will be playing in town for the fourth. I’ve spoke to him in emails and phone calls over the  years, but as I realized last night, I hadn’t seen him in over 20 years. So my lady and I, will be trying to go see his band play and I will return to Emmanuelle and continue my journey just after the fourth. Some of you might be thinking “he got a taste for being back on shore, he wont go back to the boat.” I assure you I will, I started this journey with a goal in mind and I will achieve that goal. As important to me as the Campana is, its also important to do what you set out to do. Because my goals and desires in life are important to me, its important to her for me to achieve them. The understanding and this attitude she has towards my goals is just one of the reasons I am so in Love with her.

So bear with me writing about some time ashore for just a little while longer, and I will be writing about the sea, sailing, and reflecting soon after the 4th of July.
